Eritrea is still recovering from a very long war. It's largest mine, the Bisha mine, just undertook full operations. It produces gold and silver. There are also large copper and zinc deposits in the country. The actual mineral wealth is unknown because it has not been properly assessed but it is considered to be vast. The hundreds of thousands of unexploded mines from their war is keeping the country from fully assessing or exploiting their mineral reserves.
