I completely agree with you TriniSpanish no one is supposed to hit a child, there are other forms of punishment that are just as effective if not more so than hitting, giving penance for eg not letting the child have recess is another, it is a way of imposing discipline without frightening the child. When my son does something I think he shouldn't I don't let him watch TV or play on the computer or I send him to his room with a book and ask him questions on what he read and with these disciplinary measures I ensure that he doesn't end up resenting me at the end of the day but he also knows that he will be punished so he won't make the same mistakes. Look at what happened this morning he was so terrified of going to school he was throwing up, how can I in all honesty send him to school knowing he will not be comfortable and therefore not performing at his best and he is smart.
Scrunter if you believe in punishing your child then that's fine but how are you going to discipline him when he thinks it's OK to hit and starts doing it.
Check the age group that is reeking havoc on this population at the moment. Now do some simple Arithmetic and minus the number of years Corporal Punishment was abolish in the local school system and maybe you will see a relationship with the escalation of crime and the abolition of corporal punishment.
The escalation of crime in schools and the indiscipline of children in my opinion has nothing to do with whether they are getting beaten or not, beating a child only causes the child to resent and fear the person doing the beating.
