Easy and Simple

At times yes it can mean the same thing. Like: This job is so simple/easy. Either one works and they both send the same meaning. I know there are other examples but I used my job as the best example I could come up with. biggrin.gif

The concept is simple thus it make doing the math easy. Can it be said The concept is easy thus making the math simple?

Is an easy mind the same as a simple mind?

Seems to me Both words share some of the same meaning but each also has a few additional meanings that separate them.

Si any easy lady the same as a simple lady? biggrin.gif

Although they sound like they have a similar meaning to me they have different powers of emphasis.

For instance, you can say that the steps in moving a big boulder is simple.
Re: Pick up boulder with crane and move to destination.

Actually moving a boulder is not easy.
Re: Boulders can weigh over a tonne or more and a heavy duty crane is required.

Yes we can see that they can have a whole separate meaning and emphasis but at the same time they can mean the same thing. I would have to say YES to the topic

Herein lies the equation - does simple really mean easy? Does easy really mean simple? To ascertain this we will have to consider all possibilities and not something unique.

If you look it as a equation then your going to find that they are not the same just simular thus the reason for having both words instead of just one. The same goes for the two words meaning the same thing in certain cases.
