Anyone ever seen face off? I wonder just how close that is now. I suppose it wont be long till burn victims can have a full transplant of their face and look normal, depending on the quality of the plastic surgeon. I also think that there will come a day when people can not only change identitys, but change their faces as well.
How fortunate for the lady who needed this transplant! Her face had been literally ripped off by a dog.
How sad for the "brain dead" donor.. the article doesn't say if that person is now fully dead, or simply lacking a nose, mouth, and chin...
I'm not sure how I feel about this procedure. Obviously, the receiver of the transplant must be in critical need, but they will *not* look like they did before the transplant. The shape of nose and lips, the texture of the skin, the color. Interesting to see how this will progress.
FACE TRANSPLANT PATIENT TO MEET MEDIA
The woman who received a new nose, chin and mouth in a groundbreaking transplant operation was to appear before journalists Monday for the first time since the November surgery.

I saw her on television. When I heard her speaking I was a bit shocked because it seems like she was not able to move her jaw properly, she could not close her mouth freely but after seeing the picture of how she was before the operation, my goodness! what a remarkable difference! I am VERY happy for her.
Indeed, the issue was never that she could look normal again, but that she wouldn't be hideous anymore. So I suppose the procedure was successful in that regard. But her face in no way looked natural or even comfortable to have. But I would assume that as face transplants become more common, or at least doctors get more experience doing it, that it would become more natural looking and would fit better.
