We wonder why cities and other local governments are strapped for cash and can not make improvements to thier local areas. Here is a good reason why. A family wins by suing a local government for millions of dollars because their family member failed to listen to a police office while armed and was killed. All these lawsuits set a president that people can win lots of money because of anothers stupidity. He would still be alive if he listened to and followed the officers instructions.

My guess is the city felt that they'd lose a civil case and it would go for more than the what they settled. Remember, the burden of proof is much lower in a civil case and it doesn't even require all the jurors to agree… just a majority.

Oh I know all of that and it is sad that people will do things to be able to sue a city so they can get money. It is not just shootings that are winning people money but other things too. I see it on a weekly basis and it is sad to know that towns, cities, and counties are shelling out a lot of money to professional conmen.
