Eli, was the orphaned stable-boy who was adopted by Dynora's father after the war took Eli's parents from him. Five years older than Dynora, Eli, with his unquiet soul and longing for adventure, left the only home he had ever known, several years before her mothers death to make a name for himself in the unknown world.
After tragedy forced Dynora to set out for herself she was much relieved to see a familiar face in the towns tavern. Eli, older and with a few scars and lines on his face to mark his passage into man-hood, recognized Dynora right away. He took her into his arms and enfolded Dynora in a brotherly embrace that helped her regain some of her self-confidance back.
Eli wept when he learned of his foster-mothers death and promised Dynora that together they would find out the truth of what had happened that night. Later, after a bit of hot soup and warm spice wine warmed her belly, Dynora stared into the fire, lost in her own thoughts. She was unaware of Eli, gazing upon her thoughtful face remembering the pledge he made to his foster-father, that he would stay by Dynora's side and help her become the woman she was destined to be. That he would spend his life protecting her and guiding her, or die before allowing anyone to stand in her path to fulfillment.
