Italian President Giorgio Napolitano has asked Florence Mayor Matteo Renzi to try to form the country's 63rd government in 68 years, the Associated Press and other media outlets reported. If successful, at 39 Renzi would the youngest prime minister since the establishment of the Italian Republic at the end of World War II. Ref. USAToday

Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi to resign after losing reforms referendum
Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi announced Sunday that he will resign after conceding defeat in a referendum on his proposed constitutional changes. Renzi had said he would resign if the measure - aimed at simplifying how laws are passed - fails. As a result, the yes-or-no vote was also viewed as a vote on Renzi, the country's youngest premier. Early results and exit polls show it trailing. Renzi said he will submit his resignation Monday, Reuters reported. Ref. USAToday.
