I wonder what is the motive for this killing? If anyone has more information, please post it here.

January 25, 2008 (AP)--A Mason City man accused of killing his mother with a hatchet faces more charges. Jordan Scott Johnson is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Rita Seely last weekend. In trial information filed on Thursday, prosecutors included a second-degree kidnapping charge against Johnson for allegedly confining Seely's husband, Philip Seely, in the basement of Seely's home. Rita Seely's body was found last Saturday. Autopsy results showed she died of blunt force trauma to her head and neck. Source 4a

Case Murder Seely Rita

I remember this case in northern Iowa. The defense was trying to get him off due to diminished capacity. Jordan was blaming his mother for all of his problems. Never mind the fact that he caused most of them. He then took a hatchet and used the back end of it to hit his mother in the back of the head and neck area 14 times. HE made sure to kidnap and tie his step father up in the basement while he murdered his mother.

I find it interesting that one who is not supposed to know what he is doing is wrong will still have the sense to remove his step father out of the picture to make sure he can stop him. That sounds premeditated to me.
