To really take the worry out of it you can just a personal location beeper. Get lost and it sends a distress signal via satellite. Cell phone reception isn't needed. Rescue teams will be sent out and they can get within two miles of your location by the initial signal then can track your device in from that point. Problem solved *smile*.
I'm not saying that's the first step but knowing you have that if all else fails is vey reassuring. I need one of these. Edited: Kyrroeth on 2nd Mar, 2017 - 5:22pm
Yes a personal location beeper is very handy. I think it uses the same technology that skiers use in case of them getting caught in a avalanche. Being able to get help to those in need quickly can be very reassuring to the people who are lost and in need of rescue.
Yes you may need one of these Kyrroeth if you tend to go out hiking a lot.
It is never a bad idea to take technology along with you. IF it can be used to save your life do it. In the mean time while waiting for rescue prepare to wait and be safe as needed. Just because the technology is working down not always mean a rescue can be launched right away. Weather plays a important role here too.
Yes, and weather even has an effect on whether or not the technology works. So, that means one of the things to be armed with is an idea of what the weather is going to be like and to have the proper equipment to withstand it.
