Researchers resolve key question on titanium oxide, water interactions

When water comes in for a landing on the common catalyst titanium oxide, it splits into hydroxyls just under half the time. Water's oxygen and hydrogen atoms shift back and forth between existing as water or hydroxyls, and water has the slightest advantage, like the score in a highly competitive tennis game. Ref. Oxide Titanium

I find this fascinating knowing how they both react to each other and how the chemicals bonds are broken and reformed back and forth is great. This helps us understand other reactions much better. I did not think it would react this way at all.
