Lack of Players: Play Multiple Characters

Has anyone played a game where you or others had to play multiple characters due to lack of players? If so how did it work out?

I have played four characters at once in a game and it was ok but some of the characters can get a little lost. Most of the time I play two characters at a time in some of the Dungeons & Dragons games I play. But on this site I only play one character at a time and I enjoy that as I can get more into that character.

I can't say I have. It sounds confusing to manage within the context of the same game.

I run multiple characters across multiple games, but I have the context of the story to keep them straight.

I have and it can be fun but it is difficult to manage the interaction between your characters. For me, it's more fun to just go with one character.

A lot of times I will play two characters at a time. I like to play two brothers or a brother sister team or even a married couple. It can get pretty interesting at times.
