Crossbreeding

I know crossbreeding within a species is possible and the best example of that are dogs but what about two different species? Can a cat breed with a dog and have pups / kittens?

Cross,

The answer to this is no. Species have to be generally compatible to be able to breed. So while a lion and tiger can mate to create a Liger, a dog and cat cannot do so.
