Original Post Date: 17th Sep, 2010 - 1:41pm

Wow another shooting incident, we really have some serious issues here in the US:

international QUOTE
Capitol Hill police (USCP) confirmed Friday one man was shot by officers after being seen brandishing a weapon within walking distance of the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. USCP said no officers were injured in the confrontation. They became aware of an armed man said to be walking around a Capitol Hill neighborhood at 5 a.m. Local time. "A few moment later, the suspect was observed brandishing a weapon directly at USCP officers at 2 & C St., SW. Fearing for their lives, officers fired their weapons," USCP information officer Sergeant Kimberly Schneider said in a statement. "The sole suspect in this isolated incident has been transported to an area hospital (Status unknown). No other injuries were reported," she said. Reports from local station WTTG said the suspect was shot in the abdomen but was still breathing and was transported to the hospital.... Source 8u

The suspect shot by Capitol Police has been identified as Larry Russell Dawson, two law enforcement sources say.

Dawson was also arrested in October after an outburst in the House chamber. Court documents from that incident describe him as a 66-year-old from Tennessee. According to the documents, Dawson "Loudly stated to Congress he was a 'prophet of God.' "

U.S. Capitol Police Chief Matthew Verderosa, without naming the suspect in today’s incident, said “there is no reason to believe this is anything more than a criminal act."

"We believe this is an act of a single person who has frequented the Capitol grounds before,” Verderosa said. Ref. CNN.
