Finland to begin paying basic income to unemployed citizens:
Two thousand unemployed people will be given €560 (£480) every month for two years, without any restrictions or conditions attached. Leaders hope the move will improve life quality, reduce unemployment and create jobs. Ref. Source 9a.
I think that this is an idea that needs exploring. Whether people like it or not there will have to be a basic income given to people in the United States for example. More and more jobs are being replaced by automation. In the next ten years or so truck driving jobs will be a thing of the past. Think of all those businesses that depend upon truck drivers coming in and spending money. That will be gone. This is just one example. It will eventually happen to most jobs. What do you do when the nation doesn't need human labor anymore? You can't let people starve. Critics of this say that technological advances always creates new jobs. Not this time. Why pay humans to work on the robots etc when you can have other robots trained to do it? We are basically working on making ourselves nonessential. I'm not saying this will happen in the next year or so. Fifty years from now though… It is coming.
