Hurricane Irma - Page 6

Just watched the weather channel for a bit and Irma is back up to 155 MPH winds. This makes it a almost a cat 5 hurricane. 156 is category 5. It still has a lot of nice warm water to help it gather more strength. I have a feeling at the 5 pm eastern time update this will be very well on its way to being a strong category 5 hurricane again. They have moved the landfall more west. If it goes up the west coast of Florida with the eye staying in warm weather then Florida is going to be hit very hard.

Even if Irma remains CAT4 or further weakens to a CAT3 before hitting Florida, it will still be devastating. I know what straight-line winds of a mere 85 to 90 mph is like - trees fall in rain-soaked soil. Even mature healthy trees! Have you ever tried standing up without holding on to something in a gale-force wind? When you double this speed to CAT 3 or CAT4, the actual FORCE of the wind increases exponentially. Then, there is the lift factor as well (Some call this the venturi effect), that tends to cause things close to a flat surface to be pulled up into the torrent.

I pity those who have chosen to remain and not FLEE for their lives! There are house trailers and motor homes that will be completely destroyed when winds surpass 150 mph…

Yeah, I just read where they are calling for Irma to intensify again and possibly go all the way back to 180+ mph. They also said it appears the hurricane force winds now extend out further than they did yesterday, which means the storm surge will be even greater than predicted.

They are predicting this to go up the west coast of Florida that has not experienced a major Hurricane for a long long time. IT is going to be interesting.

And now they just updated and are predicting it to become a Cat 5 again just before it hits land. This is going to be bad for the western side of Florida.

Hurricane Irma

If it happens to hit Florida Nothing says it will turn like they have predicted as it is already west of where they said it would turn and it is still headed west. It could go all the way to Texas.

Indeed the usual temperature a hurricane needs to grow and sustain itself if something like 25C. The current temperature over the seas south of Florida currently, and for the next few days, is forecast to be in the 30C's!

I can only see Irma growing sadly, and quite like Jose will follow suit. :(.
