Hurricane Nate

In our continuing saga of destructive hurricanes comes Nate with a path that could rip through the Central-Eastern states of the USA if it were to gain a lot of strength by the time it leaves the Mexican ocean.

They are only talking about Nate being a strong category 1 hurricane. I do not think it is moving slow enough to make category 2 or 3. Now if it slows down it could become much stronger but it is moving over 20 mph so that will get it over land way too soon to strengthen much.

Hurricane Nate is strengthening and now expected to be a Category 2 storm when it hits the Gulf Coast. The swift-moving Hurricane Nate, still a Category 1, is rolling toward a midnight landing Saturday along the Gulf Coast, the National Hurricane Center said. Residents from southeast Louisiana to Florida are scrambling to prepare for high winds and life-threatening storm surge. Ref. USAToday.

If this does strike the coast as a strong category 2 hurricane it will cause more disruptions along the southern part of the US that has already seen two other areas hit by hurricanes in the past month. With the gulf being so warm still I think it still can strengthen.

Hurricane Nate made US landfall Saturday night as a Category 1 storm near the mouth of the Mississippi River in southeast Louisiana, the National Hurricane Center says. A second landfall is likely on the Mississippi coast in a few hours. Ref. CNN.

With it still having winds at 85 MPH as it made landfall at 90 I am sure that New Orleans is going to be hit pretty good too. I do hope that those in the south have prepared as they were warned to.
