Corruption In Trinidad & Tobago

Name: George

Comments: The two main crimes in this nation are murders and corruption. Of the two corruption, described as dishonest or illegal behavior especially by powerful people (Such as government officials or police. There are now so many known corrupt individuals especially here in Trinidad some being billionaires who are still unable to account how they acquired their vast wealth, and to some extent, it has become unbelievable It has now become almost impossible to detect acts of corruption, especially among our politicians. This crime has now become so professionally embedded in our society with various methods and techniques that are now being applied which hides the misused in its application. It now takes a thief to know a thief where this crime is concerned. In the past, many citizens found guilty of this crime were allowed to walk free many even keeping the proceeds of their evil act. The punishment awarded to many amounts mainly to a slap on the wrist. It would appear that some are even secretly admired as local heroes as they avoid serious punishment by the leniency shown by the justice system and the silence of our politicians. Despite a number of individuals found guilty of corruption here since our independence, you won't find any behind bars. These two bodies seem to encourage and to some extent promote corruption as they are both alleged to turn a blind eye to this act where retribution is concerned. It is pointless getting the police involved in these cases as they too are alleged to have dabbled in corruption Many such cases reported to the police have been swept under the carpet. This is despite the promise to investigate and probe these reported cases. The chances of getting away with acts of corruption here at the higher level are extremely high. The large amounts given as bribery paid in corruption cases here encourage this evil crime to flourish. The chances of getting away with acts of corruption here at the higher level of our society are very high thus the growing continual increase in this form of crime in this nation. The deliberate political and legal protection that is now given to a notorious citizen accused of corruption speak for itself.
