Disputing Bills

I hate paying bills but I monitor them. A neighbor came over and saw me checking over my bills and thought I should be doing better things with my time. I don't blindly give money unless I know what I'm paying for! When you get a bill from the utilities that seems about 25% higher than normal do you dispute it or just pay it? If you just pay it then at what percentage do you think action should be taken?

I am with you I check my bills if abnormal and if there is something there I do not understand I do not waste time just paying it I call them and ask them what it is all about. I would dispute any bill even if it is for $1.
