Unless editing and retouching was a part of their contract with the photographer, this should not have happened. A photographer/videoographer should not be making any alterations the the physical attributes of his subjects, unless asked for specifically by the client. Professional ethics.
I agree, you only photoshop if they asked you to do that and it should only be to highlight, fix the contrast and things like that not to make them look thinner.
