Ashamed Americans Fat Should

Should Michael Phelps (not fat) feel ashamed for scarffing down about 12,000kcal per day? This is the amount about 6 normal sized male adults eat in a day. So to just put the all the shame on the overweight, I think is unfair...in particular just the US's overweight.

Canada, England, France, Japan, Korea are places I have been where there are plenty of overweight people. Yes, Japan has found out what a McDonalds is like and apparently they like it. There are many more fat people over here than I saw 10 years ago. Should these fat feel bad that there are starving in the world? Heck, should the thin feel bad that there are starving?

We should all feel bad that there are starving. Shame? Shame is guilt, disgust, unworthiness and embarrassement. I can see feeling some guilt, but that should go for all no mater of weight, race or geographical location. Disgust? Probably not. Unworthiness...nope. I can see maybe some embarrassement. But should they? Say a fat person in the US gives more to charity to help starvation then a thin person that gives nothing. Who should feel shame?

I would say that those that are overweight feel some personal shame over their condition. I would say that everyone feels sorry for the starving. Lastly, I would say that we are in no position to be telling anyone how they should feel.

Should Fat Americans Be Ashamed? Health & Special Psychology

Being just fat is one thing. Being morbidly obese as the image indicates is another thing. You are shortening your life span drastically when you're that big. For me a bigger issue here than eating too much is just wasting food. Asking for a lot of food and then just biting in a small portion and throwing away the rest is irresponsible. I grew up in home where we were told to eat all that we had on our plate or miss the next meal. I grew up appreciating what I was given.

USA is fattest of 33 countries:

The United States is the fattest nation among 33 countries with advanced economies, according to a report out today from an international think tank. Two-thirds of people in this country are overweight or obese; about a third of adults - more than 72 million - are obese, which is roughly 30 pounds over a healthy weight Ref. Source 4

I agree that someone who is obese should not feel any more ashamed than a fit person about the fact that there are starving people in other countries. Should everyone of us that visit these boards feel more guilty about the fact that we have spent money on the ability to have an internet connection when there is so much joblessness and financial hardships in our own neighborhoods? Every one of us should bear the same amount of responsibility for each others hardships.

Just what is the correct weight of an adult male or an adult female. I know when I was in the military they said I should only weight 189 lbs. Due to my height. Sorry I am a big guy. At the time they said I should weight only 189 I was 225-230 lbs. That means by government standards I was morbid obese since I was over 30 lbs over my "ideal" weight heck I was closer to 40 lbs over weight. Yet when I was put on a fat test my body fat was at 8-10%. I believe for males healthy sis between 10-20% while women are 15-25% body fat. Thus the governments and all their studies can go suck a egg because the standards do not always fit what they feel is the "standard" weight of an individual. We are not cattle that are raised to a certain weight to go to market. Not every one fits into the cookie cutter mold. To say that we should feel ashamed or embarrassed is wrong. How many are truly over weight? I do not know and it will take measuring the BMI of all adults to get that number. I may not donate to starving people in the world because I am having a hard enough time feeding my own family and those in my community who are not eating.

I agree with you, I have only worked about two months out of this whole year and am struggling to keep with my own bills. It doesn't help that I had a renter that hadn't paid a couple of months of rent and that put us a ways behind. Luckily we were able to get her out relatively quickly and almost have it repaired and cleaned back up so someone else can move in so hopefully that will help us get back on track quicker. I have spent a lot of time and quite a bit of comfort in helping others out and strongly feel that often times our only excuse is our own apathy and selfishness when it comes to issues like these, no I don't do absolutely everything that I can to help everyone, I will be the first to admit that but I try to do what I can when I can to help out my fellow man.

I would feel ashame to throw away food. I try not to take more on my plate than I can handle. When I see food waste the first thing I think about is similar to the image Gossip put up, someone starving somewhere in the world.
