Cancer-Stricken 34-Year-Old Chinese Computer Engineer Dies After Being Denied Care in Private US Immigration Prison

Earlier this month, a thirty-four-year-old Chinese computer engineer, Hiu Lui Ng, who overstayed his visa, died in a Rhode Island immigration detention center. He had cancer in his liver, lung and bones, and a fractured spine. Despite repeated complaints of severe pain, Mr. Ng was refused independent medical evaluation by immigration officials. Before Mr. Ng died on August 6th, he told his sister that the nurses at the Donald W. Wyatt Detention Center in Rhode Island had told him to "Stop faking" his illness. We speak to immigration attorney Joshua Bardavid, Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-CA) and Renee Feltz, co-creator of the site BusinessOfDetention.com.

Under Trump there will probably be a big increase in these places. There will be more jobs created for it but what might happen there will probably surround a lot of controversy.

After this story if the allegations prove true, and they sound like they are, then she deserves to win this case. Yes, these people are here illegally, but they have certain rights as human beings and while in our care those rights should be respected. Medical care is one of those rights.

Yes all should have basic rights and being seen by a doctor or other medical professionals should have seen this and caught it. We need to do more to make sure basic humane treatment of our prisoners. Now if he knew he had this and came here to get caught and refused to allow himself be checked out then it another case all together and a rigged case so she could get money.

KN,

It doesn't sound to me like this is the latter case though. It sounds like he came here and we didn't provide him with the care he needed. If so, we, the US, is definitely in the wrong.

You could be correct but we will have to wait until more is known. Since it is allegations only as of right now. Everyone knows that the initial lawsuit goes far beyond what really happened.
