Can there really be such a term as Libertarian Socialist in a political setting or does the name contradict itself?

In short, yes. Those who most commonly use the term today can generally be described as socialist that reject centralized authority. The idea being that people can take care of each other and share what they have more effectively without rigid social structures getting in the way.

I generally just call them anarchists though. That's what it usually boils down to.
