President Trump makes surprise announcement that he will nominate Robert Wilkie as next VA secretary during White House event. President Trump announced Friday that he will name Robert Wilkie, the acting head of the Department of Veterans Affairs, to fill the post full time. If confirmed, Wilkie will succeed David Shulkin, who was fired by tweet in March. Rear Adm. Ronny Jackson, Trump’s White House physician, was nominated but withdrew his nomination after reports of misconduct surfaced in April. Ref. USAToday
