When seeing this I kind of assumed that the male counterparts would tend to have a lesser chance of surviving than feelings - usually by a lot of species the male tends to be more aggressive and into fights more than the females which can pose an individual threat and get themselves kill. Although apparently mating patterns can contribute to this number.
