It's no surprise the evil Meredith died while in the heat of battle. She reveled in the fight and causing destruction, all to serve her Goddess of Evil. She spilled the blood of her enemies and innocents alike, not caring one way or another of anyone but herself. If she would have lived longer, maybe she would have turned from the dark side more toward the light. We shall never know. Maybe in the afterlife she was find redemption.
