Louisville police is firing officer Brett Hankison, one of three involved in the fatal shooting of Breonna Taylor. In one of the first major moves in the Breonna Taylor case, Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer announced Friday that the police department is initiating termination of officer Brett Hankison. Taylor was shot by officers at her South Louisville apartment on March 13. Her boyfriend, Kenneth Walker, fired a shot as officers entered to serve a no-knock warrant, thinking they were intruders. Taylor was shot eight times in the ensuing gunfire from officers. Ref. USAToday.

Interim Chief Robert Schroeder wrote in a letter Tuesday that Hankison showed "Extreme indifference to the value of human life" and that his use of deadly force was improper because he failed to verify it was directed against someone who posed an immediate threat. City of Louisville agrees to 'substantial' settlement in Breonna Taylor shooting. Louisville's metro government is expected to announce a "Substantial" financial settlement Tuesday with the family of Breonna Taylor, the 26-year-old Black woman fatally shot by police in her apartment six months ago, The Courier Journal has learned. A Kentucky grand jury announced one Louisville police officer will be charged in Breonna Taylor’s death; two other cops won’t face charges. A Kentucky grand jury decided Wednesday that former detective Brett Hankison, one of three Louisville officers involved in the fatal police shooting of Breonna Taylor, will face criminal charges. The announcement comes after Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron's office presented its findings to the jury earlier this week. Taylor, a 26-year-old ER tech, was struck by officers’ fire five times and died in the hallway of her apartment.
