A tsunami warning has been issued for coastal Alaska after an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 8.0 about 15 miles from Little Sitkin Island, Alaska.

The quake had a depth of 71 miles and was expected to produce a "Modest" Tsunami, according to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center. Ref. CNN

Magnitude-7.1 earthquake hits southern Alaska near Anchorage

The quake was centered 52 miles east of Old Iliamna, 162 miles southwest of Anchorage. There were no immediate reports of damage, but reports on Twitter said the quake was felt in Anchorage. The quake was initially reported as 6.4 by the U.S. Geological Survey, then upgraded to 7.1. Ref. USAToday.
