Will the Astros take it all next time?

Houston Astros

The Houston Astros won their first NL Pennant in 2005 which earned them an inaugural trip to the World Series. Although they lost handily to the reigning White Sox, they were the unlikely heroes up until that point, dispatching 2 MLB powerhouses in the form of St. Louis and Atlanta.

Roger Clements was the ace of the pitching staff, but great performances by Roy Oswalt, Lance Berkman, Morgan Ensberg and Andy Pettitte also helped the Astros compile a stellar 2005 season. This year, they have started strong with a 10-5 record that leads the strong NL Central division. With Roger Clemens' retirement (maybe), can the Astros win the NL conference again in 2006?

Now that they have my favorite pitcher of all time, Roger Clements, I have been watching them more. I really loved the new uniforms a fews years back, and have been watching them more. I would have loved to see them go out with a Series ring for Clements sake, but it was not to be. They are off to a good start this year and don't seem to be missing a beat with Clements gone.

Roger Clemens might be coming back to the Astros! This is very exciting for me, but I wonder if the Rocket is not biting off more than he can chew.

Personally, I think he has accomplished all he can, and should just hang up the glove now. Last year was a phenomenal year for him, as we won the ERA title. The year before he won another Cy Young. He went to the World Series last year, and has played for pretty much every major team out there (Red Sox, Yankees, Blue Jays (in their hayday), Astros). Time to call it quits, in my opinion.

Lidge temporarily loses opportunity for saves

QUOTE
Astros closer Brad Lidge will probably not be used in save situations for the next couple of games as he makes adjustments that manager Phil Garner hopes will be a remedy for his recent struggles

I must say I was surprised to hear about this. Last season, Lidge was basically unhittable as a closer. It's amazing what a difference one year can make when it comes to hitting or pitching.

ASTROS EXPECTED TO ANNOUNCE ROCKET SIGNING

As I've said before, I think this is a bad mistake on the part of both Clemens and the Astros organization. However, after a great start, the team has been pretty lackluster lately, and maybe a spark like 'The Rocket' can get them back in the swing of things. Now is the time to make a move in the NL Central with Albert Pujols of the division leading Cardinals on the DL.
