Country Shut Down - Page 2

I was also surprised to see so many shops open. I went to Trincity Mall today and nearly all of the shops were open.

I think the unions have their tails between their legs now, since it seems most of the country actually worked today! laugh.gif

Well, I think the outcome was obvious. Trinis are happy with the current state of affairs. I have lived in different countries and only when things start getting really hot they will do something about it but again we are speaking about Trinis here who don't mind paying $23 for two small pieces of pigeon...sorry I meant chicken and fries and if it goes up to $50 they will still line up and pay.

Trinis are happy!

Country Shut Down Caribbean / Tobago & Trinidad

Well judging from the amount of responses (or lack thereof)... anyway I closed my doors but still worked at my business. When my employees asked if they had to come to work I simply informed them that I would be at work because its what I wanted to do. Each of them had to make up their own mind. However, if they wanted to make a statement by staying home that's fine by me but. It comes out of annual or casual leave. Needless to say everyone came to work. I guess crime and all the other ills only affects the boss.. or at least where finances are concerned. He should make the sacrifice not the workers. Enough said !

What this do? Nothing we all just get an extra holiday and it is forgotten. More crime and all come after this day.

That is right. Politicians ignore these little gripes in the system because they are not consistent. If it was that these things happened until a specific detailed response is given and assured THEN you would see change. A one off occasion is hardly worth any acknowledgment, especially when most just use it to go to the beach. What kind of protest is that?

Country Shut Down

I agree with Lordryoko. Manning must have laughed his head off over the failure of the nationwide shut down.

I read somewhere that the olympics team is going to be returning there today so that will just drown out the effects of what the shut down will do. Maybe purposely planned?

You are absolutely right Buff. Manning deliberately had a celebration planned, as a way to distract people from the purpose of the strike.

One thing that is always noticeable though. Whenever these strikes are organized, the only positive response usually comes from people living in the East, Central and South. It seems like individuals from the West either do not care or are die hard PNM members. Or perhaps the individuals in the West believe that they are not really affected by the crime or high food prices. After all, if you seriously think about it, most of the kidnappings are occurring in either Central, East or in the South of Trinidad. I thought there was supposed to be a follow up action plan. But I guess this plan evaporated since I heard that, some employees were warned by their employers, not to stay home and as a result of refusing to listen, employees who stayed away from work, were not paid or the day was deducted from their casual leave or annual vacation leave.

Rather off topic, but...
I think there would be a higher success rate if people took a united stand and chose not to buy certain products in the supermarket, like bread, milk, rice etc. This would force people to stop trying to take advantage of the poor, by continuing to raise food prices even when there was a global price reduction in flour and other foods. Just my two cents.
