Procrastination

Please consider the following quote and place your thoughts about it within your reply:

We are now faced with the fact, my friends, that tomorrow is today. We are confronted with the fierce urgency of now. In this unfolding conundrum of life and history, there is such a thing as being too late. Procrastination is still the thief of time. Life often leaves us standing bare, naked, and dejected with a lost opportunity. The tide in the affairs of men does not remain at flood -- it ebbs. We may cry out desperately for time to pause in her passage, but time is adamant to every plea and rushes on.

Over the bleached bones and jumbled residues of numerous civilizations are written the pathetic words, "Too late." There is an invisible book of life that faithfully records our vigilance or our neglect. Omar Khayyam is right: "The moving finger writes, and having writ moves on."

-- Martin Luther King, Beyond Vietnam speech, April 4, 1967 Source 2

I admire Martin Luther King but if he was speaking about "civil rights" then I must disagree with him in the strongest possible terms. "Urgency", I understand very well, but what happened to "It´s never too late"?

Procrastination is often that moment when you have your toes at the edge of the cliff - metaphorically speaking. To jump unprepared is to take a risk that not everyone is willing to take while others love the risk most of all. It is wrong, therefore, to critisize those who fear the outcome of risky business. And not everyone has the ability to prepare for the unknown.

I believe a lot of people put things off because they feel they have plenty of time to do it. I did that back in the summer of 2001. Never again will I put off doing something for a later date because they thing I might have wanted to go see or do may be gone next time I am there.
