I believe that yes it does. The old joke is, I went to a fight and a hockey game broke out. This shows that the sport is a violent sport with fights all the time. I think they allow hockey to be this way since the fans seem to love it.

Do you think the players are purposely told behind the scenes to attack other players for the sake of entertainment or do the guys who play the sport naturally have a short fuse?

I believe they learn to play the sport but are told to make it more interesting for the spectators who want to see the skaters fighting.
