July 27th 1990 Coup Attempt

July 27th 1990 Coup Attempt

Today commemorates the July 27th 1990 Coup Attempt by the Muslimeen led by Abu Bakr. There was a poorly attended ceremony in remembrance of the July 27th 1990 Coup Attempt, but it was poorly attended, so the question here is... Do you think citizens of Trinidad and Tobago have forgotten the July 27th 1990 Coup Attempt?

Attempt Coup th July

The Government and people of T&T brought it upon themselves and should never forget it, but people usually have very short memories.

There never was an inquiry into the causes and build-up to the coup probably because it would expose the involvement of too many "responsible" citizens who were aware of what was planned and who stayed away from the scene of the coup on that day.

Police Commissioner Randolph Burroughs would have worked under instructions by "prominent" leaders within the community to provoke the Muslims into unforeseen retaliation and even the change of Government left a Police Guard on the school premises next door to the Mucurapo community.

Muslims are part of the World population and respond only when provoked.

Who would have ordered the destruction of the mosque and the jailing of the Imam if that was not an act of aggression and provocation and the denial of human rights?

T&T ought to be more responsible and recognize the rights of non-Christian groups or history may repeat itself.

Peace

Interesting position, so you are saying that the Muslimeen were justified in doing what they did on the 27th July, 1990?

Media can lead vital coup enquiry

MANY people have called for a presidential commission of enquiry into events of July 1990 and recently there has been a call for both a media-sponsored commission and a truth and reconciliation commission into those events. The latter gained great popularity following the release of Nelson Mandela in South Africa and has since been introduced in several countries. Reconciliation here means hearing different sides of the story and discovering what is missing or incorrectly added from/to each side to make all sides of the story the same. Ref. Source 9

July 27th 1990 Coup Attempt

The government is creating a commission of inquiry into the July 1990 Coup. They will also sell the lands currently occupied by the Jamat in Mucurapo. This will happen on 27th July. Will this cause a backlash from the radical Muslims? The current PM said she is not afraid. (TV6 News)

They already started with the threats:

international QUOTE
THE protective services were put on high alert yesterday after a threat was made against the safety and security of the country, over Government's decision to auction property belonging to the Jamaat-al-Muslimeen.

Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar's name was mentioned in the threat,
which is receiving the urgent attention of officers of the Special Branch and the Criminal Intelligence Unit.

The threat, a police report stated, was made to attorney Liana Ramsahai shortly after she left the Hall of Justice in Port of Spain and was walking north along St Vincent Street.

A report Ramsahai made at the Central Police Station (CPS) in Port of Spain stated that around 10.10 a.m., she was walking near the First Citizens car park when a man, dressed in blue jeans and a thick jacket with a "hoodie" over his head, approached her. The man told Ramsahai, "Tell de Prime Minister, yuh family, the day she auction and sell we property, we go finish what we start in 1990 and we go surprise she."

The man was making reference to the 1990 failed coup which was staged by Jamaat-al-Muslimeen leader Yasin Abu Bakr and 114 present and former members of his organisation. The man then jumped into a waiting red Nissan B-14 motorcar, which drove off.
