After some difficulty with ZoneAlarm see: Source 4 on one computer I tried Ashampoo Firewall and I must say it is impressive. It works similar to Zone Alarm but with more detailed options. Best of all it is lightweight and FREE! Right now I'm using Ashampoo Firewall version 1.20. You can download it here: Source 1

There is one particular drawback to this program that I only just realized after trying to put it on a Vista machine - it is not compatible with Vista. It seems that this Ashampoo firewall 1.20 was not a big seller so they did not bother updating it to work with Vista.
