Harkon, I am not very familiar with the Netherlands style of playing. Could you please tell us what are some of the good things they have and some of the bad? And most importantly, what kind of match they will play against Brazil?

Like most European teams, they usually play a flat back four.
They can play a flat four in midfield as well or a Diamond formation with the fullbacks playing wide.
Their main attacker from midfield is Arjen Robben, he has a deadly shot from range and has pace, usually on diagonal runs from wide positions. The Real Madrid midfielder Rafeal van der Vaart is stronger physically but lacks Robben's flair.
Up front they have the Scouse striker Dirk Kuyt who is a hard worker next to the Brilliant forward Robin van Persie, a top goal scorer in the English domestic league.

Against Brazil, who have this year a very solid defence, I think Holland will try and catch them on the break - threading passes from a standing start will take genius and I don't think the Dutch have that depth. If they can move forward quickly after absorbing the Brazilian pressure I think they have a chance. I question Brazil's confidence in defending a set piece, so this could be a window of opportunity for tall Dutch finishers.
I don't think there will be much in it, I hope the Dutch win.

Thanks Harkon. I will be crossing my fingers! I really do not want Brazil to win!

I saw that Blatter made an statement with regards to the terrible mistakes the referees are committing in this world cup. I wonder what is his obsession with NOT allowing video replay? He is talking now about footballs with chips on them, etc but not video replay.

international QUOTE
WORLD CUP NEWS: IT"S NOT yet clear whether any of them asked if their country could be the ninth team in the quarter-finals, but Sepp Blatter confirmed yesterday morning that he had apologised to representatives of the Mexican and English football associations for the refereeing errors that had contributed to their teams" elimination from this World Cup.

He said that revisiting the question of how goal-line technology might be better used to assist match officials was inevitable in the wake of the weekend's events which came just a day after Fifa had ruled out any further debate on the issue for the foreseeable future.

Blatter, however, continues to oppose any debate on the more widespread use of video to help with other disputed decisions. "It's obvious that after the experiences so far at this World Cup it would be a nonsense not to reopen the file on goal-line technology," he told a carefully selected group of media yesterday morning.

"We cannot change anything over 10 games to improve refereeing at major tournaments but we will look again at technology, goal-line technology, at the business meeting of the (law-making) International Football Association Board in Cardiff, Wales in July."

That body, on which the four British associations have enormous influence, came out in favour of maintaining the status quo last time it considered the matter with the Northern Irish and Welsh associations amongst the opponents to change. Some experiments have been carried out, most notably at the under-17 World Cup in Peru in 2007, but a decision was taken not to proceed after it was decided that none of the methods employed was completely reliable.

Blatter's change of tone, though, makes it possible that a more enlightened view might prevail when the matter is considered again. His comments yesterday come in the wake of the dramatic events of Sunday when Uruguayan officials failed to award England a goal in the afternoon game after a shot by Frank Lampard had clearly crossed the line. Then in the evening game two Italian officials somehow failed to spot Carlos Tevez in an offside position when scoring Argentina's first goal against Mexico.

"I have apologised to the two delegations and I understand they are not happy," the Fifa president said yesterday.

"The English delegation said 'thank you", the Mexicans nodded their heads. I deplore it when you see the evident referees" mistakes. They were not five-star games for referees. We will start with a new concept on how to improve match control.

"I cannot disclose it now because the dossier is still on the presidential table but we are going forward and will announce something in October or November, because something needs to change....

I enjoyed both matches I watched today. Japan and Paraguay going down to penalty kicks was very interesting. Seeing the Japanese kicker choke and miss the third kick was paramount in Paraguay moving on.. Watching Spain pick apart at the defense that Portugal put up was classic. To see that goal and know it was probably the game winner was great. I think Spain will be a tough team to beat.

Thinking ahead I can see the Dutch putting on a good show but I think their defense is too full of holes so Brazil will move on sending the dutch home. The dutch's only hope is if any of the Brazil teams starting players not being able to play due to yellow or red cards.

The Dutch have only let in 2 goals in the whole competition, but one could argue that they have not had a real test yet.

Yeah I can say that by looking at the teams they have played to get where they are now. Granted any team that makes it to the 16 are great teams and any that move on are even better. I just think that the caliber of the teams they have played are subpar to some of the teams they have yet to face. I really do hope they knock off Brazil because the Brazilian team is over rated in my book with serious holes in their defense. They just cover it with a great offensive. IF they get in a defensive struggle I think Brazil can be beaten.

The Brazilian side is full of talent and flair but can they deal with Dutch defensive muscle? The Dutch have finishing power too, it will be an interesting contest.
