Do you find it hard sometimes to follow direction from Church leaders? What should we do if we are directed to do something that we think is not what God would have us do?
"We may not always like what comes from the Authorities of the Church . . .
[but] if we will listen to and do these things as if from the mouth of the
Lord Himself, we will not be deceived and great blessings will be ours."
(R. Conrad Schultz, “Faith Obedience,” Ensign, May 2002, 31)
I always try to respond to every call in the Church regardless of what I personally may think, simply because I have faith and trust that the call is from god.
I am especially mindful of direction given from the prophet and the apostles, I have learnt that obedience does not go unrewarded.
not everything that is told to us to do is what we want to do that is why it my be hard. If you have feelings that something is not from God you need to pray about it and find out for yourself if it is from God
True, this is it in a nutshell, but some it is easier to just say, "Nah, I am not doing that."

Its an all volunteer Church, so we are not required to take councils from the authorities of the Church. But I think in the vast majority of the cases if we listen to the councils from the authorities (Prophet, Apostles) then we will fare much better then ignoring that council.
If we do, and the the council does in fact come from God, then we may miss out on some blessings.
It is hard to reconcile the scripture "whether by mine own voice or by the voice of my servants, it is the same" with our natural instincts to question and ignore council.
I am with the "pray to God" crowd, but I would add that we should pray for humility first and foremost. Pride, I believe, gets in the way of accepting legitimate and God given council that is coming from a leader.

Yes I am differentiating the two. But I think, though I do not have the context of the entire article, that Brother Shultz is talking about the General authorities specifically.
I may be wrong, but I do differentiate between the two.
Within there stewardship, I believe local leaders have access to inspiration from the Lord, and can be very helpful in our spiritual journey.
