Mormon General Authorities Are Human - Page 3

Attached Image QUOTE (Mark1616 @ 4-Nov 09, 12:19 AM)
I don't think Jesus is offended at our enthusiasm to here one of His servants speak.

I agree.

I was talking more about the reasoning that just because a General Authority said it, suddenly becomes unquestionable. Also, the perceptions they are somehow exempt from the weaknesses and temptations human kind goes through or the fascination with taking pictures or shake their hands, almost like celebrity status.

Attached Image QUOTE
And, although I don't think he is infallible as a man, I do believe that while acting in the capacity of his calling, and while filled with the Spirit, he is indeed the mouthpiece of The Lord.

Rather off topic, but...
We can discuss this in the thread The Prophet Said So...Is That Enough? The thread is 15 pages long, I recommend to read it in its entirely and then add your views. Thanks.

Human Authorities General Mormon

Elder Bednar gave the following quote during a devotional at BYU Idaho:

Attached Image QUOTE
"I have seen on a daily basis the individual personalities, the various preferences and the noble majestic character of the leaders of this church. Some people find the human limitations and shortcoming of the brethren troubling and faith diminishing," said Bednar. "For me, brothers and sisters, those weaknesses are faith promoting.

"The Lord has a revealed pattern of governance in his church which provides for and attenuates the impact of human frailty. It is truly miraculous to witness the Lord accomplishing his will through his servants in spite of their expectant mortal flaws and failings.... These men ... Are not perfect, but they are certainly called of God."

What is this pattern of governance that the Lord has that attenuates the impact of human frailty?

Mormon apostles are treated like superstars

But the isolation of the LDS Church hierarchy concerns me at times. We regard our general authorities, particularly the apostles and church president, as theological rock stars. The flattery, particularly in publications such as "The Church News" and "Mormon Times," is cringe-inducing. Ref. Source 5

I feel the general authorities of the church do deserve our respect and admiration but I never would go so far as to worship one of them, that is just taking it too far.

I love our General Authorities. They're men that have been called by God to lead His Church. What's wrong with being excited when you are in the presence of an Apostle of the Lord? Seriously?

Are you looking for a church with perfect leaders?

Our leaders don't claim perfection, though, and it's uncharitable for us to claim it on their behalf. Only one perfect person has lived on this planet. Only one person saves. The rest of us, including general authorities of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, require saving. Ref. Source 8q.
