On TV6 News Ms. John, Managing Director of the HDC, was giving hampers to those affected by fire. She was asked about providing housing for others waiting and she said something to the effect that in 2012 there would be 6,000 units given to those waiting for houses. She mentioned several areas mostly in the East. I wonder about this because looking back at news articles and reports in 2010 and early 2011 something similar was voiced by both her and Minister Moonilal indicating by the end of 2011 there would be many allocations happening.

I was reading an article in the Express about the cost of housing for HDC: Source 4

international QUOTE
The former price, he said, is heavily subsidised, with the homeowner paying approximately between $200,000 and $350,000.00 and involves a government subsidy of approximately $250,000.
This cost of $200,000 to TT$350,000, he said, is beyond the reach of many lower income families, even with the subsidies and lower interest rates financing provided by the Trinidad and Tobago Mortgage Finance Company (TTMF).

To get a house for that amount of money is a big help!

Yes, but is what you getting for that money. There are a lot of restrictions on HDC homes and they are located in areas that are not considered prime.

Are the lands these houses are built on freehold or lease land? If freehold and the area is reasonable it is still great for the money to have something rather than nothing. Dealing with landlords is a crime in this country.

They keep making these promises but so far I haven't seen anything concrete yet. Why aren't they distributing the apartments opposite Starlite in Diego Martin? They seem to be complete.
