Sandra Cantu Case - Page 6
She entered two pleas today, one for the murder of Sandra Cantu and another for the new charges about drugging a 7 years old girl. For both, she plead not guilty. She smiled to her lawyers several times during the hearing. It is reported that before her arrest back in April, she swallowed several razor blades.

I find this very distressing and quite odd. I do hope it isn't a trend of women doing heinous crimes, but reading many articles of late, I am beginning to think there is such a trend happening. Its all a bit off. I hope she gets what she deserves, a small dark cell left to rot.

This is the second or third time that the defense lawyer of Melissa Huckaby is asking for more time to prepare the case, I find it to be ridiculous. I cannot wait for October when the trial will start!
QUOTE STOCKTON - A hearing to suppress evidence in the case against the woman accused of kidnapping, raping and killing 8-year-old Sandra Cantu has been postponed for the second time.
Melissa Huckaby's public defender asked for more time Monday to prepare for the hearing, which was tentatively set to begin April 12.
San Joaquin County Superior Court Judge Linda Lofthus agreed. Parties will return to court May 10 to set a new date for the evidence hearing. That hearing is expected to last about a week.
Huckaby, 29, appeared with her public defender Sam Behar in a Stockton courtroom in a red jail jumpsuit. Her long hair had been cut into a short, curly style, and she had gained several pounds since her last court appearance in December.

In January, Behar asked for more time because, according to court records, he had not reviewed all the evidence and wanted to get information about an internal investigation by Tracy Police about what a detective said while getting a statement from Huckaby. Her statement was then used to prepare search warrants.
Prosecutor Thomas Testa did not object to the delay since it will not affect Huckaby's Oct. 18 trial date. Lofthus encouraged both sides to prepare to start trial that day....

Sandra Cantu Case
It is reported that there will be NO TRIAL. The accuser plead GUILTY and it spares her from the death penalty. As part of her plea, all other charges including rape, lewd acts with a child and poisoning another child and a man have been dropped. She is expected to be sentenced to 25 years to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

The last thing I know about this case is that Melissa Huckaby was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole and that she asked for forgiveness and said she really liked Sandra and she doesn't know why she killed her.
She denies sexually assaulting her and said Sandra didn't suffer when she died however, Sandra's body was found with a blood-soaked cloth knotted into a noose. On April 6, after Sandra's body was found, police searched the church where Melissa worked and found a rolling pin that had a bent handle and a smudge of blood later proven to be Sandra's. According to the court record there were injuries to the external genitalia which were consistent with the diameter of the rolling pin handles.
Sandra suffered also a cut to her lip, and abrasions to her elbow and toxicology tests also found the drug alprazolam, used to treat anxiety disorders in her little body.
My goodness, this woman kidnapped, brutally raped and killed a poor innocent little girl and even until now she wants to be a control freak and NOT tell the parents of Sandra why she did it? Because I am not buying the excuse that she doesn't know or that Sandra didn't suffer. What a monster!
