Tracking down the swine flu threat

DAYS after the Ministry of Health-as part of its surveillance activities related to the "swine flu" threat-sought out passengers who entered the country on a flight two weeks ago, a number of those people are yet to respond. Of the 179 passengers who arrived on that particular flight-two of whom have become the country's first swine flu victims- some 29 have not contacted the Ministry as of yesterday. Ref. Source 7

Swine flu kills pork sales

Since the emergence of the Influenza A H1N1 virus, commonly called "swine flu", the pork industry around the world has experienced a decline in sales. And now that Trinidad and Tobago has its first case of the potentially fatal virus, local pig farmers believe sales will only go from bad to worse. Ref. Source 7

Call for Flight 1647 passengers to contact 'H1N1' hotline

Some 182 people who travelled on American Airlines Flight 1647 from Miami to Piarco International Airport on May 30 have been exposed to the "swine flu" virus (Influenza A H1N1), according to the Health Ministry. Ref. Source 9

This is really ridiculous! The Ministry of Health could contact the American Airlines and request for a list of names of the passengers who travelled on May 30! Good grief I strongly believe that these lists would be accessible and I have never heard of the airlines refusing to divulge names of passengers for confidentiality reasons! Do we really expect people to come forward and admit that they travelled on the flight? No one really cares nor are they sensible enough to realize the seriousness of this disease!

I must admit that Trinis can be very disgusting when they have the virus or any cold for that matter. Whenever people cough or sneeze and I happen to be nearby, I usually run the opposite direction and I ensure that the person actually sees me fleeing! Usually the response I receive from my drastic actions is, the individual is extremely hurt or offended and tries to do the right thing, the next time he/she coughs/sneezes!

I have a question, is the Swine Flu an airborne disease or is it possible that it could be transmitted by mosquitoes? Does anyone know?

Trinis rather get Swine Dlu than miss Carnival. I'm sure you will also see costumes depicting the spread of death via this method and they will jump and wine to that.
