Personally I think we have come along way, but we are still far off from it being truly a versatile object with returns for investment.

Technology Robot
Very cool video, but I agree with JB. We still seem to be rather far off from having a free standing, self supporting robot which can make its own decisions. At current, a robot still can only do what it is programmed to do, no more, no less. A robot is still only a series of bit and byte commands.
