JB, she's supposed to gain some weight ~~ she's growing a human inside of her! Please don't give her a difficult time about weight, okay?
(RANT ON)
All of these changes happen during pregnancy, and all of them
contribute to weight gain (but they are NOT *fat* gain):
Bodily blood volume increases 30%
Amniotic fluid - a few quarts to a couple of liters
Uterus gets huge
Breasts gain in size, and milk producing organs grow
The placenta can weigh up to 5 pounds
The baby will weigh anywhere from 6 to 10 pounds
It's not uncommon for a healthy, active woman to gain 30 - 40 pounds during pregnancy, and most of this will disappear in the first 6 weeks after the baby is born. Normal, healthy weight gain shouldn't be discouraged, because dieting during pregnancy can spell disaster for the
health of both the mother and the baby.(/RANT OFF)
