MADE YA LOOK DIDN'T I   ;D

I bet you didn't  come to look at this becuase of concern or worry. There's a good chance your first thoughts were , 'OOOH, I wonder whats happened' or something similar.

So that leads me to the questions I'd like some answers to.
Why is it that whenever there is any kind of tragedy, disaster, etc, there seems to be a huge amount of people wanting to see what's happened. They usually want to see  how awful the whole thing is. Sometimes the tragedy hasn't yet occured but most people stand & wait for it to happen. For example, if someone is threatening to jump from the top  of a tall building, a lot of people will be stood watching, not because they don't want the person to jump but because they do.
They wait in anticipation, wanting to know what would really happen if the person came crashing to the ground.
Obviously, everyone would be traumatised after the event, but before, they stand, watch & wait.

So, why is it that as humans, we want to see things like this? We know it will upset us but we still do it.

Any thoughts????

I apologise to any one who finds this a difficult subject. It isn't my intention to upset any one.

Tragedy Major

Good question.  I don't know, but I don't think we can help it.  Here is an example from my own life.

The summer before last I was at a Bike Rally (motorcycle) that I attend each year.  I was stuck in traffic with thousands of other bikes and it soon became clear that the reason was something in the road up ahead.  I remember thinking, Oh, man, I hope that isn't a person in the road up there.  Then, when it became clear it was a person, I kept saying to myself over and over, don't look, don't look, don't look.  I had no choice but to drive right past this person laying in the road.  I kept telling myself to not look, but just as I was going by, my peripherial vision sees the image and then next thing I know, I am looking.  I really didn't want to look, but it was like I had no control over my eyes.  Anyway, in this case, it was obvious the guy wasn't dead so I felt better, but the strange thing is how I just couldn't keep myself from looking.

Now, if I had the choice to walk away from the person on a ledge, I think I would, but I had no choice but to drive by this person laying in the street and somehow couldn't help but look.
