I never liked the Jazz that much but I did have a lot of respect for Stockton, because not only was he a classy player but a classy person as well. He never really complained or whined like some of these other superstars. He will go down as one of the all-time greats at the PG position.
WIFE OF UTAH JAZZ COACH DIES AFTER BATTLING CANCER SECOND TIME
They were high school sweethearts, in love since they were teenagers. She stood by him, through good times, and bad. She was by his side when he took his team as far as it could go, without quite making it all the way.

This is very sad to hear. Jerry Sloan is a stand up guy and a great coach and I really felt for him last season when he almost left the team to be with his ailing wife. She knew how much basketball meant to him and urged him to continue coaching and he dedicated the rest of the season to her. My condolences go out to the Sloan family and the Jazz organization.
EDITORIAL: HIGH HOPES FOR UTAH JAZZ
It's that old expectations game. Last year, expectations were so low for the Utah Jazz that finishing just out of the playoffs felt like a monumental achievement. This year, fans are expecting so much from the team that finishing just out of the playoffs will feel like a monumental failure.

The Jazz certainly have died down since the last time they almost took the crown from the Chicago Bulls years ago.
Miller wants more from Jazz
Larry H. Miller wants more. More victories. More effort. More attitude. Perhaps more than anything, though, the Jazz owner wants more players who give a flip.

The Jazz, while only a game or two out of playoff contention, really don't stand a chance in the West anymore. They made their runs in the mid 90's but came up against a superior Bulls team each time. About the only player left from that roster is Greg Ostertag. Stockton, Malone, Hornacek and Eisley are all retired or gone.
The remainder of the schedule for 2006 is not in the Jazz' favor with games left against the Spurs, Mavericks and Nuggets. The young talent in Harpring, Boozer and Kirilenko shows promise, but not enough; not yet.
MARTY BURNS: JAZZ TOP POWER RANKINGS
With Carlos Boozer, Mehmet Okur and Deron Williams leading the way, the Jazz didn't even need Andrei Kirilenko (out with a sprained ankle) to beat the Clippers, Sonics and Suns last week and match the best start in franchise history. Utah can move to 10-1 and break the club record with a victory over the Raptors on Monday night. Meanwhile, AK-47 could be back later this week.
