The tracks lead to the north east if you are following the most recent tracks. The tracks go both directions but the most fresh are to the north east. Grizzly does not make out any recent scents at this time. As the rangers continue heading down the new path they can see that the prints are only a couple days old and they seem to be weighed down. They are traveling slow. Thus far the hawk is still circling in large lazy circles. When watching the hawk Krusten sees it suddenly veer to the side then again to another side. Almost like some one was shooting at it. It then turns and heads back towards you. Anyone else watching the hawk will have seen the movements.
The new path is barely wide enough to allow the war wagon to pass through. There could be some areas further up that the trees are thicker together or more thinned out. But as it is not a well cared for road it will move at a slower speed. The under brush and other obstacles can make the going tough. There may be no area to turn it so the side faces front.
It take a bit for the hawk to return but it does return unharmed. The two rangers alerted to possible danger close take more time in looking ahead and around them.
The terrain you are heading to is deeper in the foot hills so the track is going around and up a large hill. There are other large hills around you many are mostly covered by trees but there are some clear spots to allow you to see ahead farther than a kilometer or a little over half a mile at a time.
You pull the war wagon in among the trees off the road. Everyone climbs out of the wagon and starts to look around the area. Nothing is found around the wagon or the general area. Are you climbing up the hill, following the rangers or heading elsewhere. The rangers are ahead of you but stopped just barely within sight along the path.
The rangers will come back to where Zork is at. "We have seen nothing that would indicate there is anyone very close to us. Maybe a couple days but hard to tell for sure with the hills. They could be just over the next hill or waiting for us on top of this hill. Going straight up the hill in the trees can be done but not very well." The hired Ranger will look around and see what you all wish to do.
The rangers will head out to scout the area ahead. They do not see anything that will attack the wagon at this time. The path ahead is barely wide enough for the wagon but it can still travel along the path. They will tell you that they have not seen any place wide enough to turn it around if you need to. They head along the path and up the hill.
You follow the path as it winds up the hill for a ways then turns and heads back down towards the next hill. The path is still very narrow but the wagon is still able to make it. The are where the road turns is a bit wider to allow a wagon to turn and the downhill path is a bit steep. The wagon driver has the horses go very slow down hill as to no lose control. In the clearings above the path here and there you can see that the path will eventually make it to the top of the next hill where you can see a wisp of smoke rising in the air. The rangers feel it is from a camp fire.
As the two rangers and Avin approach the top of the next hill where the smoke is the air suddenly comes alive with arrows. Avin is hit twice for 8 damage. Tilantre is hit once for 6 damage. Avans cat is hit three times for 14 damage and the front ranger is hit four times for 26 damage. The lead rangers yells for everyone to get back as he begins shooting back. You head a scream from up ahead. He is walking backwards as he shoots arrows up the hill. Krusten your bird is hit for 4 damage and is making its way back towards you with a arrow through its wing.
Everyone at the wagon hears the yells and cries of pain as you see the rangers heading back down the hill towards your position.
Description of where you are. The only ones in bow range were the rangers, Avan, his cat Mr Fluffles, and the hawk. The camp where you saw the smoke is up on the top of the next hill. The path to get up there is not straight and will leave you exposed as you make your way up in a half arc. The hill is over 80% covered in trees. You can not tell how big of a clearing is up ahead at the top. The wagon is at the bottom of the hill there is not enough room between the trees to turn it around, but it is not in immediate danger. Who ever is shooting at you is not advancing down the hill preferring to use the high ground.
Avan I will need hide and move checks if you plan to head down to the wagon. The obscuring mists covers you some what but they will fire into the mist in hopes of hitting you.
