US President threatens North Korea with military force to defend allies:
President Barack Obama warned on Saturday that the US would not hesitate to use military force against North Korea to defend US allies, according to the Associated Press news agency. Obama said as much in an address to the 28,000 South Korea-based US servicemen. Ref. Source 9
North Korea announced Friday that it has detained a U.S. Citizen who it says entered the country as a tourist in April and broke the law.
North Korea's state-run Korean Central News Agency reported that authorities are investigating the man, who it said "Carried out acts that were inappropriate for a tourist." Ref. CNN
Jeffrey Fowle, an American arrested in North Korea in May for leaving a bible at his hotel, has been released and is on his way home, a senior State Department official told CNN today.
An U.S. Government plane picked up Fowle today before flying to Guam, the official said.
Fowle was arrested at the airport earlier this year while trying to leave North Korea.
Last month, Fowle gave an interview to CNN pleading for U.S. Help and speaking about conditions of his detention. Ref. CNN
Americans Kenneth Bae and Matthew Todd Miller have been allowed to leave North Korea -- where they had been detained -- "And are on their way home," The Office of the U.S. Director of National Intelligence announced today.
The DNI's office said that the U.S. Government is facilitating the two men's return home, though it was not immediately clear when they would arrive back in the United States. Ref. CNN
I was just thinking if there was a situation where North Koreans came to America and were detained in this way? Why is it always Americans going there to get into trouble, just crazy.
