QUOTE

You do tend(not you but generally speaking) to generalize and stereotype a whole ethnicity based on that

It could be interpreted that way, but I do not believe I have generalized whole ethnicities based on a cultural norm. I just note that certain cultural norms should not be celebrated.

If someone embraces (black, hispanic, or white) the hip hop culture, my view of that person is affected a little. If I see a man (black, hispanic or white) with his family I tend to have a more positive view of that person.

I do not deny that I have had some times in the past where my views of others (black, hispanic, white) have been influenced based on certain cultural aspects.

One of my best friends as a teen was hispanic. I was at his house one time and asked him why his Grandma never learned English having been in the United States for 45 years. I did not ask the question out of malice, but because he was a good friend and I didn't know the answer to that question. I truly wanted to know how someone could live in a country for that many years and not learn the language. He said he didn't know because he never asked, but suspected that there were enough people in the area that spoke spanish that she never saw the need to learn English. I loved this friendship because we could talk to each other about sensitive topics and there was no worry that offense would be taken.

Was it a inappropriate question? Maybe. But sometimes I think difficult questions have to be asked in order to open resolve deferences between cultures.

Discriminated Citizens USA Hispanic and Black Are

Are the spanish and the blacks discriminated against? Yes, they are. I also believe the whites and others also face discrimination. My point is that discrimination is everywhere. If you are white and walk in a black neighborhood you feel the stares and know that you aren't welcome. Everyone has their place. Its when we try to get out of our environment is where the trouble starts.

Comments: Let's recall that the US was founded by the White British and German colonists as a racialized society with the race-conscious division of labor. It is still largely true that to be an American you need to be 100% Anglo-Saxon, exclusively English-speaking, Protestant and, of course, all-white. We've made a little progress there as that norm has relaxed a little: Catholics, Italians and other North Mediterranean origin people can now "pass" for whites.

The problem nowadays is that in the 21st century everybody is discriminated against when outside of their majority stronghold. Passive work-related coexistence of races is of course acceptable when the ultimate goal is to divide labor, get a particular job done, and get the paycheck.

Socially and legally, things are clearly getting more complicated. Blacks and Hispanics do discriminate against Whites, but mostly socially because their economic power is still very limited. This is an example of revenge discrimination.

I would not say that Whites discriminate against minorities. Most of them nowadays are too smart to do this overtly. Of course, these minorities like to act like they are being discriminated against when playing a martyr. Modern Whites have shifted to a whole new level: they exploit minorities' weaknesses in a number of subtle (mostly economic) ways. Their ultimate goal is still the same: prevent large-scale misgenation.

There's a new sad development, however. The most discriminated group in the modern US now are not blacks or ubiquitous Hispanics, it's immigrant whites. Try immigrating in the US if you're a white guy from South Africa or Poland. You'll be treated worse than a Mexican!

Comments: Yes were discriminated against but sometimes I can't really blame the whites for that. You look at most of the low life crimes being committed and you get an African American or Hispanic mug shot. High level crime has no discrimination though, just look at Madoff. No one shunning whites because of him. What if Madoff were Hispanic and originally from Mexico?

Comments: Exactamundo! Discrimination does exist but it is cleverly done! The law and the US has changed considerably since the 1960's but education is still the main key in the process. It doesn't help that certain groups of "blacks" and "Hispanics" walk around with negative attitudes, unkept and wearing their pants around their legs and anyone who is dressed accordingly are deemed suspicious and this give the police carte blanche approval to stop such a person.

In many, if not all jurisdictions, certain police department deem a well dressed "minority' in a nice car as suspicious so it is not a stretch that such person be stopped in the absence of laws being flouted.

Are Black & Hispanic USA Citizens Discriminated?

In my experience "Non-white" people (I use that term loosely to mean anyone that doesn't appear to be mainly of anglo-saxon heritage), certainly receive mistreatment from certain groups of people. I've been searched more when I was with minority friends than with others (obviously there are many other factors that could be involved). There are racists and bigots of all groups, but I think that in general, minority groups receive unfair treatment in many situaitons.

Comments: We are discriminated against and its for two main reasons. First the Whites think we can't speak English and the other we are in America Illegal. Well I was born here and speak American English so I deserve the same respect as the White man.

Discrimination high toward Hispanics, poll finds

Who's discriminated against in America? More people say Hispanics than blacks or women - and it's far from just Hispanics who feel that way. An Associated Press-Univision Poll found that 61 percent of people overall said Hispanics face significant discrimination, compared with 52 percent who said blacks do and 50 percent who said women.
