David Goldman' Kidnapped Son
What are your thoughts about the David Goldman' Kidnapped Son case where the Brazil Supreme Court recently cited the Brazilian Constitution and said the child could not be sent back to his father?

I can only imagine the pain of both sides, the real father and the stepfather that raised the child like his own. I really hope whatever happens is for the benefit of the little boy.

What I want to know is this:
1. Why did the mother leave in this manner, was there abuse?
2. What did the father do since she left to get back his son before the mother died?
3. Was the mother a citizen of the US?

From what I know there was no abuse she was never a citizen of the US. From what I heard and read she was home sick and left to go back home on a vacation with her son to visit for a few weeks. Once she got back home she never came back. I know the father of this boy has tried numerous times to get his son back. It is the laws that gave the mother the rights to the child and now since she has passed they are still blocking the natural father from getting his son back. I guess we have to go by the law of the country that the boy is living in.
Something about Mr. Goldman does not totally convince me:
1. He waited AFTER his ex-wife death to come out to the media with the story, knowingly she cannot really share her side of the whole issue.
2. I don't believe for a second that they had a great, happy family together and she suddenly leaves and wants a divorce. Something huge is missing in this story.
3. There is an email from the lawyers of the lady that passed away offering Mr. Goldman to pay for all his expenses to visit his son (few years ago) but he refused. (The laws in Brazil state a parent only have visitation rights IF they are paying child support) but Mr. Goldman hasn't pay a cent since the mother took the child but he did settle with the parents of his ex-wife for some sort of legal issue and they paid HIM US$150,000. (And many more checks were giving to him).
Sorry, I don't buy his whole story. Many points are missing.

I agree with Suzie, something doesn't add up. I hope the kid isn't suffering too much because this whole ordeal is psychologically damaging.
KNtoran, do you agree the child should stay in Brazil or move to the US?

As much as I wish the child could be with his natural father I think moving him from the place he knows and is comfortable with is wrong. He is used to the family he has there and taking from them and putting him in a unknown place with strangers is not good for the child. Leave him there.
