What is your strategy for confronting the fantasy creature Hobgoblin in Dungeons & Dragons?

Usually if my character is of a good level I would draw my blade and run screaming at the hobgoblin to make him do a moral check. Even if he made it he would be a little taken back at my attack. I find putting the hobgoblin on defense right away is a good tactic as they like to bully their way through.

Not to mention there abilities to conceive really evil plans.

Unlike goblins if you get caught off guard by these guys your probably dead before you hit the ground, at low levels at least.
