What is your strategy for confronting the fantasy creature Roper in Dungeons & Dragons?

With this sort of foe you have to use its strengths against it. Its tactic is to grapple you and pull you in towards it, sapping your strength. If I knew the roper was there I would construct a dummy full of flammable oils and light it when it was within range of the roper. If that did not work I would try and kill it by trowing oil at it. Like, if it grabbed me I would try and get away but also I would throw oil at it and try to set it on fire.
