T&T Right to bear arms?

With the fate of businesses and 'rich' individuals being the target of so much crime do you think that people who fit into these categories (business owners, wealthy individuals, and popular socialites) be given a 'right' to carry a gun for protection?

Not at all. Crime is so high in Trinidad and now in the 'right' to bear arms, everybody is going togo just crazy since I do not think the mentality of Trinidadians can handle such a responsibility....

Yes I think if a good back ground check is done and proper training in how to handle a firearm  could be a option,,however like any where in this world it will have problems and mistakes when one has a firearm in his/her possesion

But that's the whole point. Personally, I do not think Trinidad is ready for that, not to mention that proper check and training will not be available....

T&T Right to bear arms?

You have to be joking LDS,,,,,are you from Trinidad?,,, I doubt that very much,,,,,do you know that Buisness owners have been carrying licence arms for more than 20yrs now?,,,,,there are diffirent type of permit that are issue,,,ther is the one that you are allowed to carry a firearm wherever you go,,,there is another that you keep on your property alone,, meaning you keep your firearm on your place of buisness or at your home,,,,,and when I was back home the police and army had to do extensive training at the range to keep their firearms,,,,,the police will do very well training people that are issued firearms,,,,,,,,and Trinidad and Tobago might be small,,,but trust me their Army and Police officers get the best training in their tatical department,,,,,,please don't underestimate the people of trinidad & tobago as some 3world nation of the 70s and 80s,,,,,,,,,crime and kidnappings is a universal problem,,,,all over the world these things are going on,,,,,,,,,,

No, I'm not joking at all.  And as I see you didn't see my profile and flag. I'm from Argentina but I live in Trinidad.

Yes, of course I knew that. I'm also a journalist. :)

I understand your point of view but I disagree with it. First of all, trinis has to understand one thing, just because you love your country so much (which I think is great) it doesn't mean you cannot see the 'reality' on hoe the country is really becoming. Sometimes we need to take out from ourselves the 'nationalism' to be able to see the truth. I love my country also but it doesn't mean that I don't see anything wrong with it, there are hundreds of things I do not like about Argentina but still I love my land.
Can you see my point?
Secondly, it's funny how trinidadians refer  to their countries as NOT as a 3rd world country where EVERYTHING about this country is from a 3rd world country. I do not know how many traveling have you done, but believe me Trinidad doesn't look like a 1st world country. I think is so obvious, no mention the fact that most of trinis who think Trinidad is not a 3rd world country they all live OUTSIDE Trinidad, if Trini is so great...what they are doing out there anyway?
Going back to the subject I still thinking the typical mentality of a trini CANNOT handle the right to bear arms.
Do you read the news about Trinidad every day? it's going so wild, you will not believe that such a small island like this one can have so much crime (murders particularly).
The police and the army in Trinidad cannot be compared with any other 1st world country. Maybe 'okay' for Trinidad but there is nothing great about it, it doesn't impress me at all.
I do not understimate the people from Trinidad and Tobago as you mentioned it, I do think trinidadians need to wake up from the comfort zone where most of them are living. That's reality my friend, hard...yes...but the truth.
There are great things about this country too that I love but I would be silly if I just mention the nice things and forget the bad ones when there are so plenty of them.
I know you may say 'what are you doing there anyway?' lol well, you see...sometimes there is not many options available but if I could to choose, definetly, I would not be living in here. My way of thinking is too different. Not to mention that to be able to get some savings in your account you have to do all kind of things....not my standards not my style.
